The dog days of summer are upon us, and no one wants to be baking dog treats over a hot stove. But that doesn’t mean your dog should go without. Instead of baking up snacks, try freezing them!
Not only are these so easy to make and fun for Fido to eat, they are full of nutritious tidbits that will keep your pup not only feeling good but nice and cool.
We got our silicone mold to make fill-and-chill dog treats at Amazon.com.
A silicone mold is the easiest way to make these treats, but if you can’t get one, a traditional ice cube tray or small paper cup would work, too. The silicone molds come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
I love the ice sticks, because my pups like to carry things in their mouths and hold things between their paws. They’re also a great source of mental stimulation, as your dog works to figure it out!
Sweet treats
These sweet treats are the perfect summertime treat for your dog.
What you’ll need:
• Water
• Orange, squeezed (1/4 cup juice to 1 cup water)
• Dog-friendly fruit (I used strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, but you can really use anything you want.)
Directions:
- Mix water and orange juice together.
- Pour into silicone mold, leaving a little space on top.
- Chop fruit into small sizes that will fit in your mold.
- Place fruit into mold.
- Place in freezer for several hours or overnight.
Savory treats
These treats are perfect for putting into your human beverages too.
What you’ll need:
• Low sodium chicken stock
• Dog-friendly vegetables (I used peas and carrots, but you can definitely have fun with these. Use any dog-friendly veggies you have or even kibble).
Directions:
- Pour chicken stock into silicone mold, leaving a little space on top.
- Chop the veggies into small sizes that will fit your mold.
- Add in the dog-friendly vegetables. Use any dog-friendly veggies you have, or you can even use dog kibble.
- Place in freezer for several hours or overnight.
