Injured bald eagle gets care after thwarting capture for days 4:42 am Illinois news from the Associated Press
HAMMOND, Ind. (AP)– A damaged hairless eagle that eluded capture for days is obtaining vet care after being caught in a northwestern Indiana neighborhood.
The male teenage eagle was captured Wednesday early morning by a Hammond resident who confined it with a cat carrier. The raptor was required to an animal healthcare facility, where vets are examining it for ailments or injuries.
The eagle was first spotted Monday hopping around in a backyard near the Grand Calumet River in Hammond.
Steve Lakatos is the supervisor of the Humane Indiana Wildlife Center. He tells The (Northwest Indiana) Times the eagle is sharp and also solid “yet you can distinguish his pose he does not really feel well.”
Lakatos states it’s believed that the young eagle has a wing injury since it can not fly effectively.
