The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care. This position is a Clinical Track appointment with the academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor level.
The Small Animal Clinical Sciences department faculty include specialists in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, dermatology, ophthalmology, oncology, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, and primary care. The successful applicant will join to expand our emergency and critical care team and share supervision of our combined emergency receiving and ICU services within our teaching hospital. Our Emergency and Critical Care service is in an exciting period of development and we are looking for an applicant who will be enthusiastic to contribute ideas and play a major role in the expansion of this program. The duties of the successful applicant include participation in the teaching, service and scholarly missions of the College. The successful applicant is expected to participate in didactic teaching of veterinary students including instruction within a dynamic and interactive new curriculum, clerkship training in emergency medicine and toxicology, and emergency & critical care electives. The applicant is responsible for triage and primary case management of emergency and ICU patients as well as consultation to clients and referring veterinarians seeking critical care for their animals. In addition, clinical service duties include training of fourth year veterinary students, supervision of house officers on emergency duty, consultation to other primary care services, and leadership of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Blood Bank and Intensive Care Unit. The remaining effort allocation of the applicant is focused on research and scholarly activity. An interest for teaching and collaborative research is strongly encouraged. Background check and occasional travel is required.
